Fine art
Fine art covers a wide range of art forms, including painting, sculpture, architecture, photography, and film. It is distinguished from other art forms by its focus on aesthetic value and its unique ability to communicate complex ideas and emotions.
Decorative art
Decorative art is a term that covers a wide range of objects, from ceramics and furniture to textiles and jewelry. It is usually applied to works that are handmade, rather than mass-produced. Decorative art can be functional (such as vases or dinnerware) or purely decorative (such as sculptures or wall hangings).
Applied art
Applied art is defined as any type of art that has a practical or functional purpose. This can include things like paintings and sculptures that are hung in homes or offices, as well as more utilitarian objects like dishware, furniture, and clothing. Many applied artists also work in the field of graphic design, creating logos, advertisements, and other types of visual communications.
Folk art
Folk art includes all art created by people who have developed their own aesthetic traditions independently of the mainstream art world. Folk artists include traditional craftspeople, as well as artists who have chosen to consciously reject academic training and professional artistic ambition. Folk art is often utilitarian, made for a practical use such as a quilt or a carving, but it can also be purely decorative, made for display purposes only.
Graphic art
Graphic art is art that uses any combination of drawing, painting, printing, photography, animation, or sculpture.
Digital art
Digital art is an artistic practice that uses digital technology as an essential part of the creative or presentation process. It is versatile and interchangeable with other traditional mediums, such as painting, drawing, sculpture, and printmaking. Digital art can be produced in a number of ways, including through 2D and 3D software applications, digital scanners, and cameras.
Photography
Photography is the art of capturing light on a film or digital sensor. It can be used for both artistic and documentary purposes. The earliest known photograph was taken in 1826 by Joseph Nicéphore Niépce.
Sculpture
Sculpture is the art of making designs in three dimensions, typically in stone, metal, glass, or wood. Early sculpture was largely associated with religion, and many famous sculptures exist as religious icons. The Egyptians were skilled at sculpture and used it extensively to decorate their temples and tombs. The Greeks later developed a highly realistic style of sculpture. Many of their sculptures, such as the statues of gods and heroes, are now considered classics. During the Middle Ages, much Christian sculpture took the form of reliefs on the walls of churches. Weken Renaissance sculptors such as Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci produced masterpieces that are still admired today. In more recent times, sculptors have experiment with materials such as plastic and ice.
Architecture
Architecture is the art and science of designing buildings and other structures. Architects use a variety of methods to create their designs, including drawing, modeling, and computer-aided design (CAD).
Fashion
Fashion is a creative form of self-expression that often incorporates style, design, and functionality. Clothing, accessories, and makeup are all common elements of fashion. Often, people use fashion to communicate their identity, values, and beliefs. Fashion can also be a form of art.
